While painting this piece I learned about the crystals and granite that are part of the geological formations that Nelson is built on. I learned that that it is rare but Tourmaline crystals have reportedly been found in the West Kootenays, Slocan Valley and North of Cranbrook. The crystals come in many colours and sometimes more than one colour, like the Watermelon Tourmaline crystals pictured here.
I wonder if the fire bell still works even when tangled in vines?
